Optotypes for examining visual acuity and contrast sensitivity for long and close ranges

Optotypes are used mainly by optometrists or ophthalmologists to examine near and far visual acuity, or to evaluate contrast sensitivity (the ability to recognize “bright and lighter” figures and backgrounds), but also find application in psychological research, in which it is essential to at least find out the basic qualities of visual perception of participants. LEA cards are available for the near-vision test, the Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity test at a distance of 3 m; 2x Snellen board for determination of visual acuity when seeing into the distance – letters, symbols, and Stilling-Velhagen boards for the examination of color vision.
