Psychophysiology is a discipline that seeks to identify psychological laws by examining their physiological manifestations. Psychophysiology assumes that different people facing the same situation have different physiological responses and that this difference stems, among other things, from the psychological variance among individuals. For example, when required to lecture for wide audiences, a person suffering performance anxiety will have higher cardiac activity and higher skin conductance compared to a person without a propensity for stage fright. Psychophysiology overlaps with a number of other sciences, such as cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and clinical psychology.
